United Way for Greater Austin is on a mission to fight poverty in our Greater Austin region, and we do that by bringing people, ideas, and resources together. We address complex community issues by investing in the building blocks of opportunity that every person – and every community – needs to thrive: education, health, and financial stability.

Local policies, systems, and resource limitations make it difficult for people and groups in Austin/Travis County to work together in a coordinated and supportive manner to meet the essential needs of our community. As a result, our neighbors in need are often overlooked, trust is eroded, and there is no consistent and predictable path to receiving care. This perpetuates racial and health disparities.
Model Community is a person-centered, community-led effort to co-create a multi-sector ecosystem, including data and technology tools, that helps persons, organizations, and the broader community transform our systems of care to address racial and health disparities and improve outcomes.

Model Community recognizes that there have been historic and ongoing barriers and inequities for organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. As a commitment to redressing the racial and health disparities that exist in our funding landscape, Model Community is offering six BIPOC-led organizations $10,000 each to support their capacity to engage in coalition efforts like Model Community and others. This Call for Applications outlines the details for one-year grants starting in January 2024 for nonprofits working to address the essential needs of our neighbors.

United Way anticipates investing a total of $60,000 in this work through this open application process. We anticipate awarding approximately six grants at $10,000 each.
